Here’s a little update on our life lately…
1. Last weekend we went to Sara and Nick’s wedding in Los Altos. The setting was absolutely gorgeous and Sara looked stunning. It was fun to be reunited with a couple of my old roommates (I met Sara when I moved to SF – Craigslist success story!) who have moved and celebrate together. Such a fun wedding, we danced the entire time!
2. After a really fun wedding on Saturday night, we didn’t want to leave the couch on Sunday. Or weren’t able to…depends on your perspective. Regardless, we started watching Orange is the New Black and didn’t want to do anything else! It is that good. I won’t spoil it for people who haven’t seen it, but it’s about a yuppie who gets convicted for a crime she committed a really long time ago and has to go to jail. All I know is I wouldn’t survive prison!
3. Earlier this week we tried out La Urbana, a new Mexican restaurant and mezcaleria in the Nopa neighborhood. I loved the ambiance and the drinks were spectacular. I had a drink with mezcal, raspberry, lime and cilantro. So refreshing. The food was good too. Not your typical chips and gauc, but upscale Mexican that was actually worth the prices, unlike most places that try to make Mexican food fancy.
4. A friend of mine recommended Blue Apron to us when it launched in SF so we decided to give it a try this week. It’s a cooking delivery service that provides you with ingredients and recipes for various meals. It is $10/per person per meal, which is definitely cheaper than going to Whole Foods (I never leave without dropping at least $50) or going out to dinner, so I was curious to try it.
This week we had a salmon with quinoa (pictured) and a pork larb, which was my favorite. We also have a chicken and potato salad left to make, but that’s going to have to wait until Sunday. It is so weird how they package everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, up – from a tablespoon or sugar to an onion, they assume that you have nothing in your kitchen but olive oil, salt and pepper.
It was nice to come home and just follow directions and have a nice dinner. Sean and I both love to cook, but a lot of times after a 10-12 hour workday, the last thing I want to do is go to the grocery store, let alone pick out a recipe. It takes the decision-making out of the equation, which is nice. The food was good too, and healthy! I think we’ll do it about once a month or so when we know we’re really busy on weekends and won’t have time to stock up ourselves.
5. We are leaving today for La Crosse, Wisconsin, or La-X as the locals say, to go to another wedding! Sean’s cousin Chance and Katie are getting married this weekend. Looking forward to some family time and fall in the Midwest!
